Partnership with NOVA and Bill Wilson Center

Each year GROW Organization & the Silicon Valley Chapter of the International Facility Management Association take a lead a Community Outreach project. For the past three years IFMA, joined last year by GROW worked on the Costano School/49ers Academy in East Palo Alto. The school is now in great shape so we are moving on to our next effort to help fix up the Bill Wilson Center for homeless youth in San Jose. GROW’s mission is to enable facilities careers for individuals that need help in creating new careers. Along with fixing up the three houses that constitute the homeless drop in center we developing facility internships for some of the homeless youth.

Our main workday is Saturday April 25. We need volunteer help that day as well as support in setting up before that. We also need donations of material and skilled labor.

49ers Academy – Digital and Performing Arts Collective Project

In Partnership with the Community Outreach Committee of IFMA Silicon Valley, GROW is helping to create a Digital and Performing Arts Collective (DPAC) at the Costano School and 49er Academy in East Palo Alto. The plan is to build out the gym stage area into a state of the art digital theater. This will provide a home base to rehearse and stage new work created by the youth of East Palo Alto. The performance/performers, back stage work, event planning and facilities work will all be managed by the children/young adults (7 – 12 grade). Great progress has been made in procuring the equipment needed (audio, video, lighting, screens, pipe and drape) and in preparing the master plan for the theater. Once the plan is complete the infrastructure requirements will be detailed. Installation will begin once the Ravenswood City School District completes a design review.
